Artist Statement

My work explores memory, identity, and the emotional narratives that shape our lives.

Working through contemporary figurative painting, I create portraits that exist between memory and imagination. Drawing inspiration from personal archives, photography, observation, and everyday experience, I am interested in the ways faces become vessels for emotion, storytelling, and human connection.

Rather than documenting specific individuals, my paintings investigate the emotional traces people leave behind. The figures that emerge throughout my work often become symbols of vulnerability, resilience, longing, introspection, and transformation. Through portraiture, I seek to create spaces where personal memory intersects with collective experience.

Color plays a central role in my practice. I approach painting intuitively, allowing color, texture, and gesture to guide the development of each work. Saturated palettes, layered surfaces, expressive brushwork, and emotionally charged compositions become tools for exploring states of presence, absence, remembrance, and desire.

Many of my paintings feature women as protagonists not as idealized representations, but as complex emotional presences. Their gazes, gestures, and expressions invite reflection on identity, perception, and the narratives we construct about ourselves and others. These figures inhabit spaces that are simultaneously intimate and symbolic, where memory and imagination coexist.

My practice is rooted in a fascination with the stories that images can hold. I am interested in the moments that cannot be photographed directly: emotions, sensations, fragments of identity, and the quiet histories carried within the body. Through painting, I attempt to make visible what often remains unspoken.

Ultimately, my work is an invitation to pause, remember, and reconnect with the emotional landscapes that define our shared human experience. Through color, portraiture, and intuition, I seek to create images that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.

About Me

Where Memory Becomes Image

Gemini_Generated_Image_qvqs14qvqs14qvqs.png

Winibey López is a Venezuelan contemporary visual artist based in Miami, Florida. Through expressive figurative painting, she explores memory, identity, femininity, and the emotional narratives that shape human experience.

Drawing inspiration from personal archives, photography, and everyday observation, López creates portraits that move beyond physical likeness to investigate presence, vulnerability, and connection. Her paintings inhabit a space between memory and imagination, where color becomes emotion and portraiture becomes storytelling.

Working with bold palettes, layered compositions, and intuitive brushwork, she develops a visual language that reflects both personal and collective experiences. The women who appear throughout her work often become symbols of resilience, introspection, and transformation.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe and has been featured in galleries, art fairs, and international publications. López holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNEARTE in Caracas, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Miami International University of Art & Design, and an International Master's degree in Art Therapy from Barcelona, Spain.
